Getting Past The Midpoint of The Year

by Kiyanna Dowling

With midterms passing, York Suburban has reached the halfway point of the year.

A lot has already happened from Homecoming, Friday night football games, No Shave November, and research projects. With the third marking period starting, students should look forward to sports games, Mini-Thon, Winter Sports Madness, and many more events.

Freshmen are finally adjusted and settled into high school. They have now taken their first final or midterm which might have been a little more troubling for some.

Freshmen Brooke Kresselin and Jaylen Richmond both agree that getting adjusted to high school has been easy so far, but Andrew Peyton said, “It has been kinda difficult but you have to find your way around and have a pretty good friend group.” With this just being a little under the halfway point of the year, Richmond said, “Homecoming and being able to hangout with friends” has been her favorite part of the year while Peyton and Kresselin both agreed on their prospective sports seasons.

Richmond and Kresselin both agreed that the hardest part of the year has been the tests while Peyton said, “Around the first couple weeks, getting around, finding my way around the school, and finding who I wanted to be around” was the most difficult part.

Sophomores already have one year of high school under their belt. They are just starting to figure out who they are as a person and their friend group and learning how important academics are to their overall high school experience.

Sophomore Camden Brewer said high school has gotten easier because he knows more of the criteria of the school. Ben Rohrbaugh’s favorite moments of the year has been competing in the tip off tournament for basketball along those lines Brewer also agrees with sports being his favorite part of the year so far. However, with Brewer’s being “playing in a home district football game.” As the second half of the year approaches, Brewer looks forward “to play in States for basketball this year,” and Rohrbaugh said he is “looking forward to growing even more and become a better player. I want to help the basketball team win a county championship.”

Juniors have just finished the first half of this very tough year. Junior year tends to be just the beginning of a lot of stress that comes along with SATs, PSATs, and the whole college journey. Junior year might be the hardest for some, but definitely not all.

For junior Danny Gartner, junior year has not been that difficult; however, “There is more homework than freshman and sophomore year, but it is not challenging.” So far Gartner’s favorite moment of the year has been “watching Mr. Mountz try a triple clap push up.” As the year continues Gartner looks forward to having fun in his classes and making new friends.

Seniors have now made it through the first half of the year and are looking forward to reaching the end of their high school career. Many seniors are finalizing their college and major decisions and their post graduation plans. With just under 5 months to go, there is still so much for seniors to be excited for.

Senior Sayam Alam thinks that senior year has been “Pretty fun because we get to leave for study hall and lunch and it’s not as hard as the other years” where Zoe Molock agrees as well. Both Alam and Molock have decided on a major. Alan plans to major in business to pursue his real estate license and Molock plans to major in early childhood education and has already applied to 6 colleges.

For Molock something as simple as getting her privileges back has been the highlight of her year so far. For Alam his favorite memories have been “creating and finishing  memories with my friends that I’ve been with for the past 11 years.” Molock is excited to leave and graduate while Alam looks a little closer ahead where he just wants to finish the year strong.
