York Suburban’s Exceptional Success in Academics

by Michaela Trotter

There are various opinions about York Suburban, but the one thing that cannot be denied is our academic success.

Based on state required tests, graduation, and how well the school prepares students for college education, York Suburban High School has been ranked 1,283rd  in national rankings, #44th in Pennsylvania, and #1 in York PA Metro Area High Schools.

Every year, students take national exams, SATs, Keystones and many other tests that measure academic success. Chris Adams, a vice principal at York Suburban High School said, “I feel that our state assessments, national exams, etc… help our students be better prepared for college; and give the students college bound opportunities and offerings.”

There is no doubt that all of the assessments help students become prepared for college, but what if that is not the route that they choose?

Theresa Jackson, a newly appointed administrator at York Suburban said, “I wish we could offer more electives that are geared towards certain careers and give students an opportunity to have more exposure to paths that may differ from college.”

Even though York Suburban is a Blue Ribbon school, that does not mean that the school is perfect. LaDawn Huber, the guidance office administrative assistant said, “ we should work on making sure we service all students regardless of ability.”

It can’t be denied that Suburban is one of the best schools in PA but there is always room to grow and get better. Things are looking up for the rest of the 2019-20 School Year.
