Vaping: The Addictive Electronic Device

Vaping are the new alternative cigarette that are addictive, just like a cigarette, but just come in a more modern way. With 254 possible cases nationwide of a vaping related lung illness, things are spiralling out of control.

Vaping is defined as the practice of inhaling and exhaling vapor produced from an electronic cigarette or similar device. According to Hopkins Medicine, nicotine is a primary agent in e-cigarettes and cigarettes, it both can cause addiction and withdrawal symptoms. Nicotine raises your blood pressure and spikes your adrenaline. 

A new illness is becoming more common in the U.S. While the origin is unknown, it is to be vaping based. The Washington Post said, “354 possible cases in 29 different states.” The matter is being investigated by CDC and FDA. 

Investigators believe that the illness is coming from the contaminants and not a term of use. The Washington Post said, investigators warn users to not buy vaping products off the street nor add any homemade substance. 

With cases ranging from ages teens to late 60’s, it’s surprising many use it. Freshman Aloanys Negron said, “Teenagers smoke because they think it’s cool then they get addicted.” 

Vaping is seen everywhere on the news, but Junior Peyton Lando states she seen vaping occur at parties. While Sophomore Athanasios Kompotiatis said he sees it happen in cars.

What is the Source ofteen vaping? What makes it cool? Freshman Aniyah Deshields stated personally vaping is not cool. Others with the same answer, if many don’t think it’s cool than why do so many teenagers still do it? 

While Wall Street Journal stated, “out of a survey of 9,872 teens… 69% have stated that they use flavors that the JUUL company does not make.”  

Companies from origins like China have been selling JUUL pods illegally. Sales are happening off of social media, streets, and even in schools. 

The rise of vaping is starting to become and dangerous due to the recent illnesses. With it affecting teens too, makes organizations more alert. Vaping addiction is a rising crisis amongst the country.
