The year is starting off, and the freshmen are excited for the upcoming school year. With dances, Link Crew events, and sport games, freshmen are pumped up.

Starting the year, many freshmen wondered how they would handle the higher set of expectations, and a different environment.

Freshman Alyise Holmes stated, “It’s a lot different from middle school. The transition was pretty good.”

Freshmen, Max Gati, Alyise Holmes, Matthew Berg, and Zane Lightner agreed that there is more independence and responsibility.  Lightner said, “The teachers treat you with more independence and you are more responsible for your work.¨

Mistakes and life lessons are developing for incoming freshmen, and many already have advice for next year’s freshmen. Freshman Gati said, “Try to insert a study hall into your day.¨ Berg said,  “Make sure you do your work and assignments ahead. Manage the work build up.”

Teachers also see the transition for freshmen as an important step. Math teacher Janell Connelly said, “Self-regulating working and being able to work without teacher intervention” are important skills for freshmen.

Biology teacher Ericka Hallman said freshmen need to work on “Development, social well-being, and laying a good foundation.” This can help make the transition into middle school easier.
