Why Fashion is Important

To most people what they wear is the key to their day. Wearing what people want to wear expresses who they are both physically and mentally. Physically because they get to show off their new clothes they might have bought trying to impress someone and mentally because they are wearing what they feel comfortable in.

Junior Savion Harrison, said that he “enjoyed getting to wear what he wanted to in school because he thinks it identifies his personality.” He continued to say that depending on how he feels when he wakes up, or the mood he is in, determines what he wants to wear that day.

Harrison said that when he is happy and feels like wearing jeans, a nice shirt and some Airmax’s. But, on a “bad day” or a day where he just does not want to wear anything dressy , he might want to wear sweatpants and a hoodie with a pair of Ugg boots.

He also said that in regards to the school handbook some of the things York Suburban say students cannot wear to school he does not agree with. He thinks nothing should be banned or restricted to wear because people should be able to wear what they like and not change for the matter that it makes someone “uncomfortable.”

Although for boys there are not a lot of clothing that they are not allowed to wear compared to females. Harrison  would like to wear tank-tops, beaters and even bandanas or headbands to school.

Another Junior Kiley de Gary,  also said she enjoyed wearing what she wanted because “it defined who she was”. To de Gary, wearing what a person wants is important because it matters to them. It not only shows friends and other people their taste and likes but simply demonstrating what they feel good in.

Wearing what people want define who they are as well as impact others by beginning things like trends. Trends are developing qualities that get seen all over the world. In Suburbans High School things such as mom jeans, tucking sweatpants into high socks and even scrunchies are all trends that are coming back.

Fashion is a necessity, good or bad, because it is everyone conveying who they are by dressing the way they desire.
