Hats in school have been a very debated topic over the years. Students have expressed their voice to wanting hats in school. So why can we not wear hats.
Is it because some hats may be inappropriate to wear in school grounds? Or perhaps there is another reason.
Some students may find it as a way for them to express themselves. Students may also like a certain brand and show their like for that brand by wearing these hats.
A student’s style is one of many ways for them to express themselves. If a student can express themselves they can let their voice out and bring change.
While there does not seem to be a problem with wearing hats, there are many reasons as to why students aren’t allowed to wear them. Another student may get offended if the hat has or says something racially or culturally offensive. It could also be used as a way for students to show their rebellious ways.
Some YSHS students have been very expressive on how much they wish hats could be worn. Freshman Eligio Mendez-Mendez agrees that students should be allowed to wear hats on school grounds. He stated, “Yes because students can express themselves” Mendez said.
A student being able to express themselves in school can help change the environment in a good way. A student not being able to express themselves is like taking away their voice. What if clothing is a way for them to express themselves and let their voice be heard?
While voice and expression is good, there are some reasons as to why wearing hats in school can be not such a good thing. Hats could be used as a distraction. If a student were to wear a hat that has a bright sensation in the classroom, a student could easily lose focus.
If a student can not focus the student would not be able to learn properly. Freshman Luke Wagner is on the side of students who does not think hats should be allowed.
Wagner claimed, “No because there is no real reason for them”. Is this another reason the dress code has not changed? There is really no reason you need to wear hats, it is just a piece of clothing to add to your outfit.
For now, the dress code is staying the same. But sometime in the future, because of these students making a push for change, this code will change in favor of hats. Wearing hats could help students attitude in a positive way. Overall hats are not all that bad and could help out the students in this school.
