Climate change causes concern

Despite the grey skies, there have been several warm winter days recently.

Climate change is becoming a concern among many throughout these past warming years. Why is it becoming such a big topic? Are these warm winter days a result of climate change?

From dangerously cold air, to warm air in a couple days during these winter months, some think this is a result of climate change. There are a handful of things that are said to cause climate change. Some sources of these changes in climate are humans and what is being affected is even worse.

Climate changes range from the increase in global temperatures to extreme weather like oceans getting warmer, or melting ice caps and there is evidence to prove it.

Science teacher Leigh Foy said, “It is a natural process” and “depending on the gasses in there can actually trap heat.” She adds to this by saying that there are only a couple ways this can be fixed. She said, “we can stop making so much CO2 or we can take the C02 out of the atmosphere that we already have in there.”

The only way we can overcome climate change is if centennials are taught the dangers of it, so that they can fix these problems for a better future. Sophomore Nick Richardson said, “I feel as though we are being educated only slightly, but we should become more educated on climate change in order to better the entirety of the world.” Richardson continues his statement by talking about how sea levels are rising and heat waves are becoming more long-lasting.

Over the past years, humans have put an unimaginable amount of CO2 in the air, causing these outstanding changes in climate. If  let any more CO2 get into the air at large amounts that they have been at, things will get ugly. It is now time for the current generation to hear these problems out and fix them before they get worse.

With evidence of what climate change can do, it is easy to see that young adults are grasping around what is happening to the earth. Kids need to be taught to the full extent of this topic, so this will no longer be a worry.
