The 2018-19 Boys’ Basketball Season Ends on Disappointing Note

by Michaela Trotter

The 2018-19 boys’ basketball season was a year filled with promise and determination.

One of the star basketball players sophomore Aidan Hughley said, “The basketball season was a should have, could have, would have season. It was a ‘what if’ season but had a lot of improvements.”

Also one of the star players for the JV team, junior Chris Spellman, said, “It was a great season but also disappointing.” Both Spellman and Hugley named West York as the hardest game they played.

Many games this season were heated. Varsity cheerleader, junior  Zoe Molock, thought Eastern was particularly heated. LaDawn Huber, guidance secretary, who worked a lot of the games said, “Dover.” Junior Sandy Shokry and sophomore Sharon Rosa believe the most heated game was against “Kennard-Dale.”

Coach Tom Triggs said, “It was a learning season, it had its ups and downs, but if the young ones learned something then I did my job.” Triggs also mentioned several accomplished players this season: “Cedric Walker and Aidan Hughley. I was also pleased with Alon Gorham, and Camden Brewer because they were freshmen and had a big job on the team this year.”

Triggs also recalled “The Susquehannock game. We were down 16 or 17 points and we came back and we won. That showed the determination and perseverance of the team, and I was proud.”

Junior Chris Spellman also counts the game against Susquehannock as a highlight of the season. He said, “We went into overtime in Susquehannock and we won.”
