This past Friday, Shelby Sosa, a 15-year-old freshman at Santa Fe High school was in her first period gym class getting ready to play basketball when the fire alarm went off.

Sosa was in class with her twin sister and some friends when they thought that this was a random fire drill. Unaware of what was actually happening, Sosa and her friends made their way out of the gym towards the outside.

Sosa adds that on the way out her substitute teacher Ann Perkins pushed her out of the way of a fatal bullet, saving her life.

The suspected shooter, Dimitrios Pagourtzis, he is a 17-year-old junior who also attended Santa Fe high school. Pagourtzis is accused of killing ten people and wounding 10 others, resulting in on of the most deadly attacks in the nation since the attack in Parkland, Florida.

Sosa describes how once they heard the fire alarm go off, the gym class students and substitute teacher Perkins, began to make their way down the hall to the outside exit doors. Sosa adds that at this time they all thought it was just a normal fire drill.

Once they got about half way down the hall they heard three loud noises which sounded like gunshots, Sosa said that that is when they started to panic and Perkins told everyone to run.

As Sosa’s twin sister,Tabitha, and one of her friends were running towards the exit in front of her, Sosa saw them make the exit and pauses in the doorway to scan the area to see where her other friend was.

Sosa stopped for a moment and saw that her friend made it out she felt a shove from behind pushing her out of the doorway. At the same time she heard a single gunshot and turned around to see Perkins grasping onto the door frame; she had been shot.

Perkins, fell to the ground and her last words were to her students telling them to run. Sosa ran and met up with police who then guided her and her friends to safety.
