Prom season approaches

By Vienna Zerbe

As May approaches, so does prom season. As students are preparing for the long-awaited prom season, they are questioning how their plans for prom day should be organized and what the best resources are to get prom ready.

One of the first needed items on a prom to-do list is one’s prom dress! Because York is small, there are limited options when it comes to dress. York is small so dress stores are limited. The ones that are available, are very plentiful in selections.

Shopping for dresses can be expensive, so one must keep in mind that a price range is ideal before considering specific dress. Make no mistake, a more expensive does not always mean better dreses. Consignment stores can very much be the way to go!

York is home to various consignment stores with quality dresses. For example, there is a clothing store on East Market Street called “Fashion Cents”. The store has women’s clothing for all ages, but is abundant in gowns during dance seasons.

For my freshman homecoming, I was fortunate enough to purchase a dress from Fashion Cents! The dress only cost twenty dollars.

If you are looking for something in between a normal store/consignment store, a great choice would be Twice Upscale on West Market Street. The store itself is a treat to go to because of the luxurious set-up, and it also offers only high quality suggestions. It is a more selective consignment store.

One benefit of purchasing a dress from a consignment is the better chance of no one having the same dress as you, giving you the chance to have spotlight with your prom gown!

While consignment stores are not everyone’s cup of tea, there are other stores around York. There are mall stores that offer good evening gowns.

I had the pleasure of purchasing my Snowcoming dress from the store. The store has a good selection in velvet dresses as well, which is definitely a popular trend. The store also offers a wide variety of jewelry, anywhere from body chains to dangly earrings.

There are other well-known dress stores around York such as Lilla’s, Simone’s Renaissance, or David’s Bridal. However, feel free to try some of the hidden gems!

The next step, is one’s hair or make-up choice. Appointments can fill up quick so be sure to book ahead of time. As a word to the wise, always get your makeup done before your hair. There are even high school students around York that can provide these services. A great business is Sky beauty! The business is run by Skylar Bievenour, a student at Temple’s cosmetic school. Bievenour provides both hair services and makeup services, you can see her work at skyb_beauty on instagram!

After the look is complete, it is time to schedule the day. Always be sure to schedule your appointments way in advance to avoid any last minute situations! When it comes to pictures, York is plentiful in picturesque places. For example, there is a few places in Wyndham, such as the reservoir, Box Hill, and the indoor Country Club.

As prom season approaches, so do the worries that come with it. Be sure to think about all the different things one needs for a wonderful prom season!
