New Music for October

by Maddie Levans

October’s variety of new music releases have proven to create a solid finish to 2017. After the loss of music legends such as Tom Petty, Chris Cornell, and Chester Bennington, the music world is using the rest of 2017 to grow and come together in unity.

Indie blues singer King Krule has released a new album titled “The Ooz,” being his first release under the name King Krule since his smash hit 6 Feet Beneath the Moon and his latest album since 2015. Krule did an interview on Beats 1 from his home in London, where he played songs from the album, along with some unreleased songs that didn’t make the final tracklist. Krule showcases his signature bluesy style, but adds a more rough, lo-fi feeling with tracks such as “Dum Surfer” and “Biscuit Town.”

Marilyn Manson, after hinting at an album release at last year’s Alternative Press Awards, has finally released a new album, titled Heaven Upside Down. The album is a lot darker and harder than his last album, The Pale Emperor, reminiscent of his earlier works like Antichrist Superstar and Holywood.

Rappers Young Thug and Future have released a surprise collaboration album, Super Slimey, following the mass amounts of success from both of their most recent albums. Young Thug’s latest solo release, Beautiful Thugger Girls, was released this summer, boasting hits such as “Take Care” and “Me or Us.” Future’s latest albums, released back to back earlier this year, have produced smash hits like “Mask Off” and “Selfish.” The album’s energetic, fast-paced style will likely make it a hit among a variety of listeners.
