French elections to determine fate of Europe

The Republic of France is having its presidential elections which is running from April 23 to May 7.

While there were many candidates, two came out on top: Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen. The former represents the En Marche! Party while the latter represents the National Front.

Emmanuel Macron is a French politician and former investment banker and is only 39 years old. He stands center-left and proposes to slash corporation tax to 25%, send teachers to deprived areas, and strengthen EU ties among other things.

His opponent, Marine Le Pen, is the daughter of the founder of the Nation Front and a former lawyer. She stands on the right and proposes to cut ties with the EU, shut down ‘extremist’ mosques, and impose a 35% tax on goods from firms relocated outside of France among other things.

Junior Megan Ranker said, “I hope Macron wins because a lot of Le Pen’s policies seem too extreme especially when she talks about Muslims in France.”

Macron is currently leading at a 23.9% while Le Pen is at a 21.4% but more results are yet to come.
