Carter Fry channels Coppola

by Maddie Levans

Carter Fry: junior, tennis player, sandwich maker, and filmmaker. For the past eight years, Fry has been making short films and vlogs.

When he was nine, he began documenting family trips and vacations. “They were really for my grandma,” he said. “She loves them.”

From then on, Fry has always been interested in filmmaking. “I try to model my work after prominent filmmakers like Casey Neistat and and Steven Spielberg. They’re visionaries, and their work really speaks to me.” His biggest inspiration has to be his father, however, who really helped him stick with his filmmaking career.

In February, Fry made a promotional video for Shipley Energy to help them promote their new compressed natural gas tanks. “I got recommended for the job by Mr. Toren. One of his past Video Comp students works at Shipley and asked him if he had any students were interested in making the video” he said, “So that’s how I got the job.” Here at YS, Fry has made various promotional videos for the annual York Suburban Mini-THON, along with the intro to the YS Newslink and the student interviews in each segment.

To shoot his short films, Fry uses a variety of cameras, ranging from GoPros to flying drones. His main camera, a Panasonic Pro AG-HVX200 3CCD, is what he uses to shoot his short films, along with a remote controlled drone, and a GoPro. To edit his footage, Fry uses Final Cut X.

For some of his upcoming projects, Fry plans on making another video for Shipley, along with more short films.
