March Madness bounces toward finals

March Madness has been a standing tradition in the realm of spring sports. The hype for March Madness is growing each year, with anticipation for the event rivaling that of the Stanley Cup or Superbowl playoffs. Now that March has begun, it’s time for basketball to shine and capture the attention of the nation once again. The madness began on March 14.

Fans of the month-long event have already started to create the perfect bracket in hopes to figure out the Final Four. In recent years, the percentage seated correctly has not exceeded two percent in the last six years. The final four will be hosted in Phoenix for the first time ever this season.

In the opinion of ncaa.com, “If you have a rough first few days, as long as a few of your Final Four teams are alive, don’t sweat it. Root like heck for those teams when they’re playing. And if they survive, you’ll have a chance to win.”

The science behind picking the Final Four has been deemed Bracketology and is one of the most important parts of the season. Almost every sports network and site has already lined up their first draft. The possibilities are endless from there on. This year, the final four include: South Carolina v. Gonzaga and Oregon v. North Carolina.

Sophomore Madie Barshinger said, “It’s a total upset. This is the first time that South Carolina is in and the first time one of the other teams have been in since 1939.”
