Track team races into a new season

At the dawn of spring sports season, York Suburban’s track team is ready to once again retake the field, aiming to have an all-around prosperous season.

Some track team members who participate in winter sports, such as junior Aidan Fryar, are excited about the change of scenery and hope to reach the same level of success in the upcoming spring season as they did in their winter season. “I’m sad that I’ll have to wait 2 weeks before starting track because of the states overlap, but at the same time I’m OK with it. States is a cumulation of all the hard work I’ve put into swimming, and I’m really looking forward to starting something new and restarting that process of work and competitions,” Fryar said. Fryar also said that the throwing team is sure to be very strong in this upcoming season.

For the seniors on the team, this is their last season opener; however, the freshman turnout is expected to be high this year. “I’m excited to work with Mr. Jackson’s talented kids,” said senior Sofia Spadotto, a four-year veteran of the YS track team. During her career on the track team, Spadotto has helped her team. “As a senior, I know my strengths and what I bring to the team, and that’s my ability to help others improve. This season (for me) will be less about what I can do as an individual, but how I can help my underclassmen teammates grow as athletes.”

The upcoming freshman class has a whole bunch of talented athletes who are expected to really shine this season. Sophomore Natalie Koller, sprinter and long-jumper, is very confident in what the freshman class will bring to the table. “We have a lot of good incoming freshman joining the team this year, so hopefully they’ll help us win the division,” he said. Koller went on to describe how she feels like this year’s team is likely to win the division, going undefeated in every dual meet during the regular season.

This season is sure to be filled with amazing performances from every member on the team. Come support the track team at their first home meet on Thursday, March 23 at 3:45 after school.
