To honor Mardi Gras, the French Society hosted a celebration of carnivals on Feb. 28. Mardi Gras, which translates to “Fat Tuesday,” allows for a feast prior to the restrictions of Lent.

The celebration included food and the vibrant colors of green, purple, and gold which symbolize faith, justice, and power. French music flowed through the hallway outside of the room.

To kick off the celebration, there were a series of activities, including “musical spots.” Musical spots has the same rules as musical chairs; however, one spot is taken away after every round and one person is eliminated after every round.

After musical spots, students participated in a a scavenger hunt to find the prize, a rubber duck, and whoever found it won a candy bar.

A decorative mask contest was held, and students voted for their favorite mask. Rebekah Kelley, a freshman member of the French Society, said, “It was really cool to be able to interact with other kids from other grade levels. There aren’t many times you can do that in school and have everyone agree with what you’re talking about.”
