Magic rejoins Lakers

by Ty Avery

On February 2, “Magic” Johnson rejoined the Lakers as a permanent member of the management staff.

Johnson was originally sought after to provide counsel to the owners in terms of basketball and business. Johnson, wasting no time at all, soon shared his desire to be in charge.

Without hesitation, Jeanie Buss, part-time owner and President of the Lakers, fired her brother Jim Buss as a last ditch effort to switch up the face of the company. In his place, Johnson was hired as the new Vice President of Basketball Operations.

Johnson has been a part of the Lakers family since 1979 and is very excited to rejoin the organization and work closely with Jeanie and the Buss family. They hope that Johnson may add a fresh new outlook to the company owners and rebuild their basketball program and reputation. This was a much needed switch-up from previous years as the Lakers’ profit margin has begun to decline within the last three years.

Fans and critics of the Lakers believe that this could be a very good change, hoping that Johnson can instill a winning mentality within the team and improve the reputation of the brand overall.
