Children win with MiniThon

MiniThon is starting to go into full swing. The MiniThon chairmen are getting ready for the big day, Feb. 19 through Feb. 20.

MiniThon sign up sheets are available in Student Council adviser Oliver Good’s room (229). Students can also sign up for the donor drive at the Student Council website, yshssc.weebly.com. Students must raise at least 50 dollars to participate in MiniThon, which can come from the donor drive.

Student Council member freshman Zoë Hornberger said that MiniThon is “an overnight event that is raising money to support families with children who have cancer for the Four Diamonds Fund.”

Student council member Jonas Atkinson said, “There will be a DJ, basketball and dodgeball tournaments, food, crafts, a glow dance party, line dancing, video games, and regular dancing.”

Parents who wants to get involved can get their company to sponsor Mini-Thon. If a company donates enough, they can get different opportunities like their company name and logo on a YS Mini-THON shirt. This information and more can also be found on the YSHS Student Council website.

Hornberger said, “People should want to go to Mini-THON because it is for an amazing cause that helps children and families with pediatric cancer immensely.  Money raised for the Four Diamonds Fund pays for research to develop an understanding and cures for pediatric cancer and help support families who are affected by pediatric cancer monetarily. Mini-THON is an incredible event to help and support these families in an extremely fun way, so, personally, I believe that everyone should want to come out because of how influential Mini-THON is to pediatric cancer patients.”
