Teacher Appreciation Week

The York Suburban Senior High School celebrated American Education Week last month. According the the National Education Association, this week presents an opportunity to celebrate public education and honor school support staff.

On Nov. 20, a wide spread of bagels, fruit, yogurt parfaits, granola bars, donuts, and coffee welcomed the teachers and staff. Student council organized the entire breakfast. Sophomore senators and at-large members were in charge of the breakfast and appreciation efforts.

Throughout the week, students filled goody bags with assorted candies and messages like “You’re a lifesaver!” to put in faculty mailboxes. Budgeted money allowed the Student Council officers to buy the food, drinks, and essentials for the teacher’s breakfast gathering.

The sophomore officers include Sammy Rodas (President), Marianna Rodas (Vice President), and Katie Hill (Secretary). Other lower and upperclassmen volunteered their time to greet and thank the staff members as they entered the event.

Hill said, “We just wanted to give back to the amazing teachers and staff we have. They do so much throughout the school year, sometimes without a thank you, and we think that they deserve to be recognized.”

Many teachers spend hours inside and outside of the classroom to ensure their student’s growth and academic achievement. Faculty and administrative members come before and after hours to keep the building organized and safe.
