Senior lunch options

by Allison Alwood

There’s no doubt that the teenagers of our generation love to eat. Luckily, the senior class is permitted to leave for lunches and open periods. Since most students work at a minimum wage job, rubbing pennies is the best option for saving money. There are many restaurants and delis within a two mile radius of the high school that provide great meals on a lower budget.

Nittany Pizza sits only two minutes away on 2073 Springwood Road. They have a large menu ranging from appetizers, wings, burritos, signature and gourmet pizzas, calzones, burgers, salads, and BTO sandwiches. Nittany offers special accommodations to those who are lactose intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and/or gluten intolerant. During lunch hours, Nittany provides a special which includes two slices of cheese pizza for $3.79 or two slices of pepperoni pizza for $4.49.

The Chipotle Mexican Grill is located two minutes away on 1923 Springwood Road. Chipotle is known for its assembly line where you can create a burrito, bowl, taco, and/or salad. They have five different meats to choose from, including a vegetarian option, two types of rice and beans, veggies, salsa, sour cream and cheese, and guacamole for an additional price. If the meal wasn’t enough, customers can also purchase their famous chips made in house. The prices at the Chipotle Mexican Grill run from $2.40 to $7.20.

Jimmy John’s can be found four minutes away on 2058 South Queen Street. They are known for their different sized subs in plain slims, eight-inch sub sandwiches, giant club sandwiches, and The J.J. Gargantuan. Most subs are served with a choice of meat and provolone cheese. Even though Jimmy John’s specializes in subs, they are also well-known for their branded chips, cookies, and pickles. The prices range anywhere from $1.25 to $8.50.

Deli Delicious is five minutes from the high school on 966 South George Street. The deli is popular within the area and is known for its welcoming atmosphere. For lunch, Deli Delicious offers a full sandwich menu with freshly baked bread, a fresh salad menu, a daily soup special, goods from their bakery, and authentic Gelati. The prices run from $3.49 to $6.99.

Senior Laura Sinkovitz said, “I like eating at Chipotle, however; Nittany Pizza provides more options for a cheaper price.” Senior Jamie Myers said, “I like Chipotle because it’s really fast so you have time to eat.” Emily Hamme said, “I enjoy going to Nittany because the pizza is different and better than others.”
