MiniThon makes progress toward $50,000 goal

by Kirill Cross

On Friday, August 28, the high school hosted its first ever MiniThon movie night. From eight to about ten, the movie Monsters University was shown on the baseball field. With an admission of two dollars per student and five dollars per adult, the movie night was set to raise money for Minithon to help children with cancer. With many options to choose from, the snack bar offered refreshments for those who wanted to snack while settling down and watching the movie.

MiniThon chair sophomore Katie Hill said, “It was a success, I think we had a really great turnout. I’m really looking forward to doing events like this to support MiniThon.”

Student Council President Devon Hornberger said, “Our overall fundraising goal for this year’s Mini-THON is $50,000.  In order to guarantee this fundraising increase, we added a few more events to the Mini-THON roster.  We hosted our first-ever movie night, which raised over $2,800 towards our efforts.  Since this was our first time hosting an event like this, we were surprised by, yet so grateful for, how much we were able to raise!  Because we received such community praise for movie night, we are considering hosting another one in the spring.”

Senior MiniThon Co-Chair Bailey Cross said, “Our next event will be held on Saturday, October 24. We’ll be hosting our Color Clash that day. There will be a run that is almost 3 miles long, and afterwards we plan to have a bunch of food trucks and some other businesses coming in to cater our event.  We will have yard games and likely a few games of pick up kickball, volleyball, etc. This will be our second year holding a color run, and with the way things have been going, I am very confident that our Color Clash will be a huge success, even more so than last year.  I encourage everyone to come to this event and even more to come to our actual MiniThon in February. Listen closely to announcements or follow our pages on twitter and instagram to find out more about our awesome MiniThon events!”
