YS Baseball Supports the Military

York Suburban Baseball hosted Northern York for Military Appreciation day on Saturday, April 13. The goal of this day was to get as many people as possible to the game, buy a York Suburban camouflage t-shirt and send all proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project.
A local business donated the t-shirts and both JV and Varsity wore them during the game. The game was just as much of a success as was anticipated, there was a large crowd wearing camo as all of the shirts have been sold out. With the donations, merchandise and concessions, the day raised just under $2,000 for the wounded warrior project.
Senior Griffin Vinarski was anxious for the game. He said, “my father was in the Military so this game is near to my heart, I hope we can raise a lot of money for this excellent cause.” In addition to Vinarski’s father, junior Jovani Vasquez is currently in training for the United States Armed Forces.
Several former Trojan baseball players as well as York Suburban alumni currently serve. Senior Spenser Strickler has multiple family members in the service. He said, “this day is just a little way to show our appreciation, we will never be able to thank them enough, but wearing the camouflage and raising money is a good start.”
The atmosphere of the game was similar to a small college game, a public address announcer, music before the game and between innings as well as a concessions and merchandise stand rose money for the troops.
The United States Navy had a recruiting stand at the game and presented the colors during the national anthem. The event was the first of what the program hopes will become a tradition and grow stronger every year.
