Boy’s Tennis Achieve Greatness

Now that spring is coming around, new sports are starting their seasons. The boys tennis team will be starting their season on March 4 and will be going on until after the regular season, where there are counties at the end of April, districts in early May, and states in mid-May. The team will be working hard by practicing every day of the week except for Sunday and days when they have a game.
Senior and team captain Michael Hogg has been chosen to be featured this season. Hogg has been playing for eleven years, making him seven at the time he started. He has only good things to say about playing for YS, “I enjoy playing on the team because it’s a great place to build friendships and to help each other improve our games.” Will Hogg continue to play tennis in college? “I don’t know what I will do with tennis in college.” Hogg will be attending Colgate University, a D1 school, so it may be more difficult to make it onto the team. “I may play at the club level instead.” Hogg is a great and experienced player and we wish him luck in his years to come.
Hogg seems excited about the upcoming year, but looks back on the previous season fondly. “Last year we had a great season. The team won counties, I placed third in the county singles tournament, and David Lee and I placed second in the county doubles tournament.” Even though last year was a great year, Hogg looks forward to the year to come. He was asked his thoughts on the upcoming season and he replied “A couple of strong players from last year graduated, but we still have a promising lineup. It will be difficult, but this year we’re looking to defend our team title, as well as win the singles and doubles tournaments.” The team’s biggest division rivals are Biglerville and Susquehannock. “Both schools will also have strong teams this year and will present the biggest obstacles for us.” Hogg said of the competition this year.
Hogg also had very good things to say about the tennis team coach, Coach O’Reilly. “Last year, Coach was York’s Division II Coach of the Year. In his first season, 2010, we had lost four of the five varsity players; last year, we won counties, so someone’s doing something right.” Hopefully whatever they are doing right keeps up this year, good luck boy’s tennis!
