Guns should not be controlled

First of all, guns don’t kill people. People kill people. While that phrase is constantly tossed about, it’s completely truthful. People can have ammunition gathering dust in their house for years. People can have guns sitting around in their house for years too, but does the ammunition or gun injure or kill anyone? No. That’s because the people wielding these weapons kill people. They pull the trigger. They’re the ones committing the mass shootings. Guns don’t exist with the singular purpose to kill people. Guns have many acceptable, legal uses.

By restricting gun use or even outlawing guns, America is creating a black market commodity. What happened during Prohibition? Did the distribution and manufacturing of alcohol decrease?  No. Despite the good intentions of the people for banning alcohol, it didn’t decrease alcohol use. In fact, many law-abiding citizens became outlaws for searching out and running illegal bars. In a world where guns are restricted or banned, there’d be a huge business in the distribution and manufacturing of illegal weaponry. More people would be injured and killed because of this improperly trained individuals had illegally purchased firearms.

Furthermore, just because many mentally unstable and criminal individuals have used guns in order to injure and kill people, doesn’t mean all gun-owners are using weapons for the same purpose. There are legitimate uses for weapons such as hunting and marksmanship competitions. Whether or not you yourself enjoy these activities doesn’t mean that the people using guns acceptably shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy them. If anything, there should be extensive background checks and psyche evaluations for any future gun-owner in order to prevent more sociopaths from obtaining weapons.

By restricting or banning the usage of weaponry, America is punishing owners who use their firearms responsibly, not just those who abuse the privilege. There are many owners who protect themselves against all types of dangers. A gun can be used for deterrence. If a burglar broke into a house, he’d think twice about stealing from that person if they had a weapon. The gun owner doesn’t necessarily shoot anyone, but uses the gun as a warning, that if the burglar intended to harm or steal, he would have to decide whether to face the consequences or not.
