York Suburban softball team refuses to lose

The York Suburban High School girls’ softball team has recently gained a new head coach, Jenn Weitzel. In 2014, Weitzel became part of the High School’s faculty as an assistant to the former head coach, David Turybury.

After Turybury resigned as head coach in the fall of 2014, the girls’ softball program was searching for somebody willing to take over. Weitzel immediately took the job. Since she was younger, Weitzel has always loved anything softball so this was the perfect opportunity for her.

Weitzel would not be able to do this on her own though; she has the support of two other assistant coaches. The two other assistant coaches are Larry Dalton and Eric Eytcheson. Weitzel said, “My husband and father will also be helping out with the program a lot this year too.”

Eytcheson is the father of Junior, Olivia Eytcheson, a player on the team. Of course, Eytcheson has an ample amount of experience with coaching softball. Dalton is the father of a former student of the Suburban district, Brittani Dalton. Dalton also of course has an ample amount of coaching experience.

In the past years, the York Suburban girls softball team has not had a lot of success but with the new equipment, new girls, and new coaches the whole school is cheering for them. All of the coaching staff love the game and just want to see the girls have fun and move the team to bigger and better things.

This 2014-2105 season, the girls varsity and junior varsity teams have moved down a division. All of the faculty and girls on the team are excited for this season because moving down a division will hopefully improve their winning record.

Senior softball player, Emmy Turybury said, “We have a chance to be very successful in this division as long as we continue to work hard and play as one team.”
