Teacher of the week: Mrs. Geiple

York Suburban High School recently gained a new director of the Green Club. In the middle of January 2014, York Suburban High School welcomed a new teacher to the school. Jacqueline Geiple is one of the few new teachers hired as a result of York Suburban School District’s low turnover rate for teachers, meaning the majority of our faculty have been employed by the district for years.

Prior to Geiple’s arrival, the position was filled by a long-term substitute. Students may have enjoyed class with a substitute teacher but that was long forgotten when Geiple began to teach with a passion that everyone couldn’t help but notice.

Sophomore, Diamond Hughes said, “I really enjoy Mrs. Geiple’s class because it allows me to express myself freely.”

As the new art teacher, Geiple’s main area of focus in the classroom is ceramics and creative crafts; however, she also serves as the new director of Green Club.

Geiple said that she became an art teacher because her college roommate was an art major. After becoming friends with her roommate, Geiple soon discovered that her roommate’s mother worked in the art department as well. Since she was surrounded by art during her college career, she developed a love for the arts. All of these details are what caused Geiple to see that she belonged in the art department.

Her favorite part of her job is being able to see students progressing with their artwork throughout the semester and succeeding in things they thought they couldn’t do.

Geiple said, “the Green Club is a group of people that work together to raise awareness about the environment and initiate activities to get others involved to help the community.” Geiple wants more people to be involved in the Green Club and their environment.

Geiple said she got involved with the Green club because, “I got involved with the Green Club because I have always loved the idea of taking care of the environment. As cliche as it sounds, I want to take care of our planet.”
