Inspired by the Color Run 5K that is becoming very popular, Oliver Good and student council came up with the idea of arranging the Color Clash. The event took place in the neighborhood surrounding the high school on Oct. 24, 2014.

Good, a social studies teacher at York Suburban High School, introduced Mini-THON to York Suburban last year. With the help of student council, its first year over 28,000 dollars. Mini-THON included activities ranging from Zumba routines, volleyball tournaments, inflatable obstacle courses, and cupcake decorating sessions.

During the Color Clash, students and their families ran a designated course while student volunteers, including the girls’ volleyball team, dumped colors on them. Many students dressed up in costumes or dressed in white so that the colors were visible on their clothing after the run.

The Mini-THON committee considered the Color Clash to be a great success. Over 250 people registered and participated in the Color Clash and helped York Suburban High School raise over $5,000!

As well as the success of the Color Clash, the committee is also very grateful for the contributions from senior Alden Funkhouser for setting up and playing music to keep the runners energetic and motivated throughout the whole run.

The proceeds from the event will be used toward the school’s fundraising goal of $30,000 for the YS Mini-THON 2015, which benefits the Four Diamonds Fund.

The Four Diamonds Fund is an organization whose goal is to help childhood cancer. The proceeds benefit the children being treated in the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. The Four Diamonds Fund aims to help the children with support, care, and research.

In addition to the Color Clash, the Mini-THON committee will also be arranging several more fundraising opportunities such as a Chik-Fil-A dinner on December 16 from 5-8pm, Mr. YS, and diamond sales. The committee would also like to encourage all students to sign up on Donor Drive in order to begin raising money for Mini-THON 2015! The directions to sign up and fundraise are on the York Suburban High School home page.
