What about Ebola?

Although Ebola is not a threat in the United States, some students believe that the public should be concerned about it. A student named freshman Abi Miller said, “Ebola is dangerous for people that have it and the people in contact with it. People are over worrying about it. It is no longer a threat to me.”

Another student named freshman Sammy Rodas said, “Ebola is devastating. It causes americans to be sick; however, doctors should still help with the outbreak.”

This other freshman named Alexis Bowen does not think that Ebola is going to be a problem. They said, “People should still be very careful about the disease and take as many precautions as they can.”

Ebola is mostly in West Africa. This disease is caused by an RNA virus. It infects wild animals and people. The only way to get Ebola is if you had contact with an infected animal’s blood or human body fluid. Outbreaks of Ebola began in 1976 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the Ebola River.

The symptoms are similar to other viral infections. Symptoms include fever, headache, body aches, cough, stomach pains, and vomiting. Ebola is often fatal. New medications are being developed, but as of yet there is no vaccine.  Humans can become infected with this disease is from butchering an infected animal.

This is what Ebola looks like.

Symptoms can appear up to 8-10 days after exposure to the virus. People can not get the virus from air, water, or food. Another way that people can get infected by Ebola is by touching contaminated objects, like needles. To prevent from getting this disease, do not make contact with any blood or body fluids that have been infected with this virus. Hopefully, doctors or scientist find a cure for this deadly disease.
