Suburban Beats Biglerville

The York Suburban High school field hockey team is well-known for its strength. Coached by Elizabeth Milkowski, the team trains hard every day. Recently, all their hard work paid off in a win against Biglerville.

The team was determined going into the game but was proud leaving it with a score of 2-1. Field hockey is typically a low-scoring sport for both sides; “to score two goals against a pretty solid team is pretty commendable,” Milkowski commented. Milkowski also shared in her entire career as coach, the Suburban field hockey team has never defeated Biglerville.

Even though the team has had a win against Biglerville in a while, Milkowski wasn’t surprised on the win she admitted, “I knew going into it we had the potential to beat them. I had checked their records and they weren’t as strong of a team as they usually are, but they’re still a decent team. You never know on any given day though, but the fact we never beaten them I think they [field hockey team] were surprised. I wasn’t surprised though.”

“I think we beat Biglerville this year because we had a more well-rounded team…” said Milkowski, “We switched up our line-up from having three forwards to having four forwards. We played with one less defender, and I think as a result we had more offensive opportunities and we were able to score two goals against them.” Milkowski also explained that the team used plays that they used throughout the season, “We try to go with the plays we have been most consistent on”

The Biglerville was a home game and one of the events during Senior Night. Seniors such as Tagan Lehr and Ali Plonk helped the team score goals throughout the game. Milkowski added that there was a lot of emotion again due to Senior Night considering it was the last game. The game was also one of the only home games played under the lights, and Milkowski said the players “played with more intensity..” and “it upped level of play” which also helped the big win.

The field hockey team, like any other sports team, has grown and essentially become a stronger team. Milkowski added, “I always tell them it’s about getting better a little bit everyday. Everyday at practice they need to come with the mentality that they need to work to improve. I think that was one of our goals for the season, by sticking with that goal we were able to be more competitive with a lot teams this year and improve in the long run.”
