A lot of people perceive York Suburban High School to be “Snob Hill”, or in other words, a bunch of bright, white rich people. However, Suburban actually has great diversity among the students and faculty.
Regardless of the immense amount of pride we have, we do not view ourselves as better than other schools, students, or faculty members. Many other schools are prideful and not viewed as snobs.
Our school does not deserve the nickname “Snob Hill” because that makes us sound supercilious and arrogant. Students and faculty here acknowledge our success and achievements and take pride in them with good reasoning.
Suburban holds a high amount of school pride and appreciation. We also have very high test scores that we are extremely proud of. People believe that because of our abundant self-esteem, we are pretentious.
Our school is viewed by outsiders as a district full of high-class people who have the world at their fingertips. Sophomore Ralf Casper stated, “Suburban has diversity. Although we use to be full of snobby people.”
He said people think we are snobs because “we are not a large school. We are quite small but we do have a large chunk of students that are mid to higher class.”
Although a lot of our school is composed of higher class students, we do in fact have many kinds of people here. We have students from many different races, ethnicities, religions, political views, and social standings.
Suburban students strive for good grades and top ranking test scores. We pride ourselves in these achievements and recognize the good it does for our school district. Students and faculty work very hard for this success.
Many students here disagree with these reputation given to our school. Sophomore Sumahid Chowdhury stated, “We have a lot of diversity here at Suburban. We have large range of races and classes here”
Ultimately, Suburban is just made up of students from all walks of life who simply pride themselves in the success they have here. We have a truly amazing staff who are very dedicated to teaching our students.
