Changes coming to the schedule

With the 2013-2014 school year coming to an end, some changes to the schedule are bound to be on the horizon according to guidance counselor Karen James. After speaking with school administration, it was discovered that the changes are not limited to just the schedule. James also said there will even be some significant changes to the courses being offered,  as well as some minor alterations to the current courses.

To start, physical education will be different next year. Instead of phys ed being a full year class, starting next year it will only be offered half the year.

Physical education will be split up by classes. For instance, all ninth and tenth grade students will be mixed up into one physical education class, then eleventh and twelfth grade students will be in another.

According James, upperclassmen will have gym four days per cycle while the lower class will have it five days per cycle.

James also said that the changes to the schedule involving physical education will open up a slot for another half year course, which gives students an opportunity for a few more credits.

Along with physical education changing, the Health course will also be different. James said that Health will also be a half year course.

Everybody already knows about how Safety Education was optional for the current ninth and tenth grades and will be until they become upperclassmen. After this year the school Safety Education will still be offered as a online elective.

Although the courses themselves are not being changed, the names of some of the classes being offered are changing. For example, instead of the school having CPA courses, starting next year they will be called Honors classes.

The school is  also still offering the Creative Careers class. For the past two years not enough people have signed up for this class so guidance is thinking about cutting it if not enough students have signed up for it.
