Suburban receives recognition for academic excellence

Throughout every school year and series of standardized testing, schools make sure to prepare their students so they can achieve academic greatness. The past 2012-2013 school year was nothing short of greatness for York Suburban School District.

At 1:00 pm on March 24, 2014, the state Secretary of Education, Carolyn Dumaresq, visited the district. The reason for her appearance was to give awards to schools that earned a 90% or higher on the school performance profile. The school performance profile takes every aspect of the school into account when calculating that school’s score.

This awards ceremony was held at the middle school because the students and faculty wanted to partake in pep rally activities before they began their PSSA’s. Victoria Gross, the middle school principal, promised that her middle school students would have the most energy and excitement for the awards.

The schools in our district that were presented with this award for earning at least a 90% were Yorkshire Elementary, Valley View Center Elementary, the middle school, and the high school. All of these schools also received a banner that is displayed. York Suburban High School received a score of 97.4%, which is extremely rare and difficult for a high school to achieve. Dumaresq even expressed how unique and special it was to receive the score that this school did.

Students from the high school student council went along to the assembly to represent the school, and were invited to a reception afterwards.

Dr. Ellis offers his congratulations and says that it is very awesome to receive this award. York Suburban has clearly shown hard work and determination over the past school year, as every school attempts to earn a score this high.
