Spanish Heritage Month runs from September 15th to October 15th. It celebrates the Hispanic Heritage throughout the United States. The significance of the September 15th start date, is that it collides with the Independence Day of many Spanish speaking countries. In Spanish teacher Heather Kinneman’s class, the students talk about the importance of Hispanic Heritage throughout the United States, such as the use of the Spanish language, important Hispanic leaders, actors, sports and figures.

The students from the Spanish Honor Society make announcements about Hispanic Heritage month.  However, Spanish teacher, Mr. Michael Coy said that there is no Spanish week. He said that he and his students do not do much for this event, but he believes that his students shouldn’t just have fun for a simple week, but for the whole year. He also said that he thinks that his class should celebrate this a little more than what they currently do.

French Week is set by the American Association of Teachers of French and it was the week of Nov. 4-8. It is about promoting the French language and culture and awareness of the contributions of the francophone culture. Usually, the French Honor Society plans some events. This year, the students made posters and labeled many things in the building, as well as shared information on NewsLink about the contributions of the French culture to Science, the Arts, cuisine, sports and music.

Every day there was a question of the day and students could enter their answer and win a prize. In the past, the department  also had a French movie night. The students enjoy putting it all together, even though its a lot of work for a small number of students.  German department generally celebrates their week in March.  The classes talk about the German culture and   promote German interest and study. In the past, they have done announcements, the showcase, taught a little German to the elementary school
