8 Students Being Honored by Rotary Clubs

Eight York Suburban High Schools are being honored as Students of the Month by the York East Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of York.

The students being honored are:

Morgan Lehman, daughter  of Robert and Tammy Lehman.

Will Massey, son of Richard and Sarah Massey.

Alicia Baker, daughter of James and Arnie Baker.

Michael Hogg, son of David and Barbara Hogg.

Ivanny Jacome, daughter of Juan and Mayra Jacome.

Brad Clark, son of Christopher and Emily Clark.

Hannah Kowalewski, daughter of Tony and Hope Kowalewski.

Madison Strine, daughter of Kevin and Melissa Strine.

YSEF Names 2 Board Members and a Staff

The York Suburban Education Foundation has named Josh Carney and Mark Brousseau to its Board of Directors.

 Amy Taylor has been named Administrative Director to YSEF on a one year contractual term.

 

YS Cheerleaders Help ‘Bring on Play’

York Suburban High School cheerleaders volunteered at the October 14 Plaza Palooza at Sovereign Bank Stadium to benefit Bring on Play.

Bring on Play is raising funds to renovate playgrounds and parks in York City.

 

 

 

Taking to the baseball field, the cheerleaders instructed girls and boys on how to take part in cheerleader formation.  One of the most popular for the youngsters was participating in the pyramids.

Leslee Yoder is the coach of the cheerleading squads.

Handwriting Tips from an Expert at YE

 

Kim Kimpel shows Kristen Hershey – a student in Lona Kluttz’s first grade class – the proper way to hold a pencil.

First grade students at Yorkshire Elementary School welcomed a special guest in September:  Kim Kimpel, an Occupational Therapist.

She showed the students learning handwriting the proper way to held a pencil and the angle for the paper.

Ms. Kimpel also told the students that snapping their fingers is one technique for strengthening fine motor muscles to improve handwriting.

 

Fast Paced Session on Turtles at VV

Turtles may be slow moving, but they received a fast reaction from second grade students at Valley View Elementary School.

York Suburban High School science teacher Leslie Gentzyel brought a few of her turtles to the school.  Her son, Brayden, took the turtles around to each student so the student could get a close look.

‘Caught in the Middle’ at YSMS

 

Students at York Suburban Middle School had a wide range of activities during the annual “Caught in the Middle” program, a part of Pride Day, in late September.

Sessions ran the gamut from yoga, crime scene forensics, and a look behind the stage of YSMS to face painting, how to write a book, and telephone apps.

 

Class of ’07 Reunion

The Class of 2007 will hold its fifth year reunion at 10 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Murph’s Study Hall, 850 Jessop Place, York.  More information is available on the Facebook Event Page.

Super Heroes Assemby at VV

The Valley View Elementary School held a Super Hero assembly as part of the school’s positive behavior support system.Students are encouraged to be Super Heroes with their behavior.
Teddy, the school mascot, wore a cape to emphasize the Super Heroes program.

York Suburban Benefit/Health Fair

The York Suburban School District held a Benefit/Health Fair for its employees, spouses and YS retirees on Friday, August 24, 2012.

 The fair was attended by approximately 300 people.  There were 62 local businesses in attendance which, included healthcare organizations, financial institutions and fitness centers, as well as many other local business.

 Influenza shots were administered by RiteAide pharmacists and health screenings were provided by Prevention Health Screening along with Memorial Hospital.

 The fair was organized by Kathy Meals, Coordinator of the YS Community Education Program.
