A Perfect Score on ACT Exam

Jon Abel, a senior at York Suburban High School, has earned the highest possible score on the ACT college admission and placement exam.

Jon Abel

Jon Abel

The son of David and Ronda Abel, Springettsbury Township, Jon is very modest about his achievement.

The ACT letter to Jon puts his scores in perspective.  It states:  “On average, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of all test takers earns the top score.  Among ACT-tested U.S. high school graduates in the class of 2014, only 1,407 out of 1.85 million students earned a composite score of 36” (the perfect score).

“I went on-line and looked up the type of questions that would be asked,” he says.  Other than that, there was no special preparations.

However, Jon is an Honor Roll student at York Suburban, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society and treasurer of the Student Council.

York Suburban High School Principal Dr. Brian Ellis said:  “Earning a perfect score on the ACTs is an exceptional academic achievement.”  He added, “Jon is a great student, a great model of well-rounded York Suburban students.  He excels in academics and the performing arts.”

Jon is probably better known in school and community settings as a talented musician.  He plays the piano and French horn.  He plays in the school band, jazz band, and choir.  He is a piano accompanist for the school choir, the YS Singers, and the musical productions.  Jon is very proud to be a performing member of the Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz Youth Band.

“I love music, and I’ll continue to do it, but I’m planning a career in computer engineering.”  He says he has no one school in mind for his post-high school studies and he “is currently looking” at colleges.

Jon comes from a musical family.  His mother plays the flute and piano; a younger sister, Jordyn, who is beginning her freshman year at York Suburban High School, plays the saxophone and piano; and his father “dabbles” in the guitar.

About that other test – the SATs – Jon scored a composite score of 2,230 with a perfect 800 in the math section.
