Students Launch Business with Kindness

For four York Suburban students,  a love of baking together, especially sweet and colorful macarons, grew into a non-profit bakery business with a passion for giving back.  Elise Atkinson, Lilly Cook, Phoebe Caplan, and Bryn Walsh explain in their own words how baking with a purpose provides enjoyment while benefiting Charity: Water, an organization that raises money and sends volunteers to build wells in third world countries:

Elise: I went to Ethiopia in 8th grade and after seeing the everyday struggle that women and children encountered to get water for their families, I knew that I wanted to make a difference. A Pinch of Kindness has allowed me accomplish this knowing that our donations truly benefit others.

Lilly: I hope that through A Pinch of Kindness we are able to make a difference in even just one family’s life and provide them with easy access to water because as fun as it is to bake cookies with my friends, that is really why we are pursuing this.

Phoebe: When starting A Pinch of Kindness I think that we all knew that we wanted to do something larger than ourselves.  We realized that we didn’t need the money, but that there were millions of people in the world who did. Each time we sell a macaron, I get an unexplainable feeling of joy knowing that we are helping others, one macaron at a time.

Bryn: Living in America, I think we often take for granted some the simplest things in our lives, one of those being water. In starting A Pinch of Kindness we wanted a way that we all could spend time together, but more importantly a way to help make an impact on people’s lives somewhere else in the world.
