Early Learning and Child Care Coming to YSSD

By Dr. Tawn Ketterman, Principal

Valley View Elementary School

York Suburban will inaugurate an exciting early learning and child care program in August 2015.

In response to a major district initiative, York Suburban was looking to better equip and prepare our future students, as well as build upon our outstanding primary program to enhance the learning of our youngest students.  After hundreds of hours of research, committee work, and site visits, the “York Suburban Early Learning Program” was developed.

Hildebrandt Learning Centers, LLC (HLC) was selected to partner with the district to operate a comprehensive early learning and school-aged child care program for the 2015/2016 school year.  In addition, a summer program will also be offered starting in the summer of 2016, providing families the assurance of consistent and familiar care throughout the year.

The York Suburban Early Learning Program, managed by HLC, will provide the following learning/child care options beginning in August 2015:

  • PRE-SCHOOL (ages 3 to kindergarten) – This full day program will focus on child development and school readiness in an exciting setting of play and learning.  Preschool will be provided at Valley View and Yorkshire Elementary Schools.
  • KINDERGARTEN  ENRICHMENT – This half day program will provide our half-day day kindergarten families the option of having their child attend school for a full school day! The Kindergarten Enrichment program is designed to enhance (not replicate) the quality kindergarten program provided in the school classroom.  Kindergarten Enrichment will be offered at Valley View and Yorkshire Elementary Schools.
  • BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CARE –  – This school-age school program will provide students in grades K-5 with the opportunity to engage in fun learning activities and play, and will provide an opportunity for students to complete homework in a supervised setting.  Parents have the comfort and assurance of their children being in a safe and familiar setting throughout their work day.  Before and After School Care will be provided at East York, Indian Rock, Valley View, and Yorkshire Elementary Schools.

One of the goals of the York Suburban Early Learning Program  is to provide a meaningful service that will help families as children are growing!  Therefore, the program will be highly accessible!  Please note the following details:

  •  Program Hours: Monday through Friday 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. (including professional staff development days, weather-related days, non-holiday break days).
  • Enrollment may be full-time or part-time.
  • Summer Program – experience year-round care with our special summer learning program that will include guest speakers and field trips.

York Suburban early childhood staff will be working closely with HLC to provide appropriate programs for our students in such a way as to enrich that which occurs in the classrooms of our school-age students, and to better equip our preschoolers with the readiness skills they need to be successful in school. We are fortunate to be able to offer these programs in the setting of our own elementary schools where we can ensure that all students have access to safe and enriching programs in the comfort of familiar surroundings.
