Catching Leprechauns

Submitted by Mrs. Sonia Guyer

March is the perfect month for catching leprechauns, and the fifth graders in Mrs. Crumbling’s and Mrs. Guyer’s classrooms were prepared. In the beginning weeks of March, Mrs. Guyer’s English Language Arts students, provided with a list of materials, focused on drafting process writing pieces to outline directions for the construction of the traps. Once their instructions were complete, it was time to build the traps in Mrs. Crumbling’s math class. The students traded writing pieces and followed their classmates’ directions for trap engineering and construction. They soon learned that the more specific and detailed instructions yielded the most effective results to catch the classroom leprechauns. The classrooms ended March with fewer leprechauns, which means fewer missing pencils and homework assignments!
