German Treat for Kindergarten

York College students gifted Valley View Elementary kindergarteners with a German traditional “Schultuete” cone filled with treats and school supplies. They also included a lesson on how to say ‘thank you’ and ‘you’re welcome’ in German.  Danke (thank you) to the generous donations from Utz, Stauffer Biscuit Company, and the American Association of Teachers of German to make this project happen.

Trojans Takeover at the Middle School

Submitted by Ms. Pamela Kutcher

The first ever Trojan Takeover at York Suburban Middle School (YSMS), held on October 13, was a huge success.  The day was not solely about raising money for our school, but also providing  fun, team building activities for all grade levels.  Students ran relay races, competed in balloon toss, sack races, hill climbs, and tackled many other challenges throughout the course. All of the activities were run by YSMS Student Council members who were in charge of creating and organizing the events for the day.

York Daily Record reporters Maddie Crozinski and Jason Plotkin arrived to report on the day using Facebook Live, and we were even featured on ESPN SportCenter Friday Funnies.

Overall, the Parent Student Organization (PSO) and the YSMS Student Council combined their efforts to deliver the students a fantastic, fun-filled event. Our fundraising grand total exceeded $15,000. YSMS would like to send a huge thank you to all who donated, contacted friends and family to donate, and volunteered to help for this event.

Fifth Graders Attend Annual Wellness Day

Submitted by Sherri Mahorney

On October 5, the third graders at Indian Rock attended the 36th Annual Children’s Wellness Day at the Byrnes Health Education Center. The students rotated through six interactive stations that taught them how to care for their body through exercise and healthy habits. The third grade students practiced proper brushing to get rid of of the “nasties”.  In addition, they worked with local firemen to practice a smart plan for escaping a home fire. On behalf of the third graders and staff at Indian Rock, we thank the York Hospital Auxiliary and the Byrnes Health Education Center for this educational and free experience.
