fillbagctc

The York Suburban Communities That Care Middle School Board will be holding a “Fill A Bag Contest” to see which homeroom  collects the most school items for the children in our York Suburban  community.  From March 1st-31st, the middle school will be collecting school supplies, children’s socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap. Please support this effort by bringing these items with you to the Multi-Cultural Festival on the final day of the collection, March 31st.

  • York Suburban High School and York County’s single season and career passing leader throwing for 2,613 yards and 26 touchdowns this past season and 5,611 yards and 45 touchdowns for his career
  • Division II’s Player of the Year
  • AAA All-State Honorable Mention Quarterback
  • Heading to: Kenyon College, OH Division III, Economics Major
  • The year was special because…. of the way the team came together-players and coaches  (Coach Loucks taking over and Coach Marshall working with the players from youth camps to the varsity team), big senior class and exciting games along the way.
  • Advice – The ability to work as a group is an underrated part of sports leading to the success of a team.

  • Selected to the Tremendous 20 AAAA/AAA team for Pennsylvania

  • Advice – If success does not happen early in your career, stay determined and focused and make sure the hard work does not stop!

Glitter Bug Hand Washing at YES and YSMS

Glitterbug1

According to the Centers for Disease Control, keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

Mrs. Stipanovic, Yorkshire School Nurse, visited kindergarten and 2nd grade classrooms at Yorkshire with hand washing programs to help our youngest students learn the importance of good hand washing. Second grade students enjoyed the Glitter Bug program which was made possible through a grant from the York Suburban Education Foundation.  After reviewing the steps for good hand washing, students used the “Glitter Bug potion” to discover where germs might hide on their hands, and to check if they were doing a good job with their hand washing. Kindergarten students participated in the Scrubby Bear hand washing program and joined the “Scrubby Bear Clean Hands Club.” Scrubby Bear is a program of the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Stipanovic was also able to share the Glitter Bug program with 7th grade science students of Mrs. Green and Ms. Karkoska at York Suburban Middle School. The students were learning about germs, so Glitter Bug helped them improve their hand washing technique to keep the germs away!

Author Jordan Sonnenblick to Visit YSMS

jordansonnenblick

A wonderful event is in store for York Suburban Middle School students!  Jordan Sonnenblick, a popular author of young adult fiction, will be visiting YSMS on Monday, March 14th.

During his visit, Mr. Sonnenblick will be holding two large-group presentations to discuss his books, his experiences as a writer, and where he finds his sources of inspiration.   Additionally, he will be conducting a small group workshop to discuss the art of writing and useful techniques for successful story development.

A One Author, One School event has been underway at YSMS since September. The collective goal is to ensure that each student and staff member read at least one of Mr. Sonnenblick’s books prior to his visit.  Students have been reading his books during their English/Language Arts classes, as well as, independently.   Mr. Sonnenblick will be personally signing books during his visit. Students who want autographed books will need to purchase copies in advance on their own or through Mrs. Krane at the Middle School Library.

YSMS is absolutely thrilled to have Jordan Sonnenblick visit.  He’s an author whose characters touch the heart of all of his readers.
