Culture Club for Language Learners

Did you know Canada has the longest coastline in the world, Russia has nine different time zones, or the world’s tallest waterfall is located in Venezuela? The English Language Learners participating in the after-school Culture Club are discovering interesting facts like these from all over the world. The high school and middle school students are paired with intermediate and primary students to work together on a country research project for the Communities That Care Multicultural Festival at the Middle School on Thursday, March 30 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. The Culture Club will meet one Wednesday each month at Yorkshire. The first meeting was a success with 35 students participating in interactive get-to-know you activities, taking a look back at previous Multicultural festivals, and delving into Indian culture with Rupa Asuri from East York. We have students from over 17 countries at York Suburban and we are excited to have more opportunities to celebrate and learn together.
