2016 Fall Sports Season

Submitted by Matthew Marshall, Athletic Director

It has been a positive and successful season for the fall athletic teams at York Suburban. Many of our teams were fortunate enough to qualify for and excel in  post-season play.

Cross Country: Yet again, the Cross Country program upholds the winning tradition with hard work and excellence. Both the girls and boys teams were York County Division II champions. The girls went on to finish 19-1 in the regular season and win 2nd Place in the District 3 Meet and eventually finished 14th in the State. The Boys Team completed the regular season with a 20-0 Record and continued on to a 1st Place finish in Districts followed by a phenomenal 2nd Place showing in States!

Girls Volleyball: This team continued to work hard and improve throughout the season. The girls finished 11-5 and in the regular season and the JV Team also had a strong showing with a 15-1 Record. They represented extremely well in the YAIAA tournament finishing second in a hard fought match to Red Lion. The girls went on to get 3rd Place in Districts defeating a West York team they had many battles with during the season. The girls were fortunate to qualify for States, rounding out a very successful season.

Football: After having one the best seasons in school history, the YS Football Team was able to create another memorable season and build on the tradition of the program. Overcoming two tough early season losses to rattle off 8 wins in a row, the team finished 8-2 and became the Division II Champions for the second year in a row.  This is the first time in 55 years that York Suburban won back to back Division titles. The success has been a total team effort attributed to positive senior leadership and an array of players stepping up when needed. We wish the team luck as we prepare to host the first round of District games against Lampeter-Strasburg on 11/11/16.

Girls Tennis: The girls found great success as a team and individually this season. As a team, the girls finished 9-3, reaping the benefits of the hard work and a positive attitude in practice everyday. Individually, Liv Pindzola was the YAIAA runner-up and qualified for Districts as a sophomore. Samantha Clancy also had a strong individual season, and paired with Liv Pindzola, finished in the 3rd Place in the YAIAA League Doubles Championships; qualifying for Districts.

Girls Soccer: The Girls Soccer Team fought through some close losses early on in the season, but stuck together and finished the season on a strong note! The girls went 4-0 to finish the regular season, winning a thrilling game against one of the division’s top teams, Susquehannock. The successful completion of the regular season qualified the girls for the YAIAA League Champions. The team represented very well in a back and forth game against Dallastown, ultimately ending in a 1-0 loss.

Golf: The Golf Team continued to improve this season finishing third in the Division with a young team competing without seniors. Seven players on the Golf Team qualified for the YAIAA competition which shows great promise for the future.

Thank you to the coaches, faculty, administration and community members for the continual support of our student-athletes through the fall season. That support paired with the excitement created by our band and cheerleading performances provides an environment that can make us YS Proud at all sporting events!
