Summer Building Projects Update

Submitted by:  Corinne Mason

Summer is always a busy time in the District for custodial, maintenance and grounds staff.  This is the time of year that they get the chance to go into the buildings and clean, do some preventative maintenance and other things that cannot be done when the students are in session.  This is also the time when the District can get some of the more major repairs and renovations done that need to be done.  This year was no exception.  In fact, we had an extremely busy summer.  We had some type of project going on at four of the six school buildings.

At Indian Rock Elementary, there was a secure entrance installed which gave the offices and the entrance to the building a slightly new look.  In addition, there was new carpeting installed in the classrooms and the library.  East York Elementary also had a secure entrance installed and you will notice a difference when you enter the building as well as the offices.   Completion of the new entrances at these buildings now gives all of our buildings a secure entrance for increased safety for our students.

The Middle School had the biggest renovation of the summer.  The Middle School administration offices are now in the front of the building with a new secure entrance.  The guidance offices were relocated to the former administrative offices and two classrooms were relocated to the former guidance offices. The kitchen and dining area are being renovated to allow for adequate seating while addressing some safety concerns as well.

Last, but not least, the High School also had its share of attention.  The High School had the sidewalks redone on Southern Road and the auxiliary gym was renovated to increase the size to allow for more usage.

Once school reopens, if you have the chance, please check out all the results!
