All these events — and perfect weather — combined to create a memorable Homecoming 2014 weekend September 18-20.

Homecoming began at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, with a series of  Powder Puff football games in which girls from each class competed to face a team made up of faculty and administrators.

At 6:15 a YS Pride Rally was held in the front of the high school to celebrate York Suburban High School’s ranking by “Newsweek” magazine as one of the top high schools in the state and the nation. (See separate article.)

The highlight of the rally was a banner unfurled on the front of the high school building with those rankings.

The Homecoming Parade followed and featured the bands from both the high school and middle school, students from each school in the district marching in the parade route, and the Homecoming Queen candidates being driven in convertible cars.

The parade route ended at the baseball field for a Pep Rally for Friday’s football game of York Suburban vs. Kennard-Dale.  With the high school band playing and the cheerleaders encouraging the large crowd gathered on the hillside overlooking the baseball field, Trojan Man and Trojan Woman ignited a large stack of wood pallets for the bonfire.

Just before Friday night’s football game, the Homecoming Queen candidates were introduced to the crowd in the bleachers as they individually walked across the football field.

The Homecoming Court included:  Emma Blasser, Alexandra Cologer, Camila Grunauer, Evy Koutsokostas, Tagan Lehr, Heather Ramp, Meghan Sauder, Anna Schmittle, and Karlee Wasilewski.  The Prince and Princess were Valley View Elementary School second grade students Tate Greenplate and Lydia Powers.

The football game that followed was an exciting one for York Suburban fans.  York Suburban blanked the visiting Kennard-Dale team by a score of 35-0.

During the halftime of the game, the School Board President and Superintendent presented a sign to be hung in the  high school marking the “Newsweek” ranking.  Accepting the sign were representatives of the students, the teachers and the administration.

The Homecoming Dance was held Saturday evening at the high school.
