Football team strives for greatness

By Tyren Posey

The past two years have not been the best for the York Suburban football team, but now the team is looking like a true competitor for the district championship. The team has started off to an undefeated start through its first four games and is looking to keep that streak alive the whole season

Between the 2017 and 2018 seasons, the Trojans have had a record of 6-14. Before that they had consecutive 8-2 seasons. With an experienced team and outstanding coaching staff, Suburban is making there way to the top for the first time since 2016.

Outside of winning, there are records that could be set. Senior running back Savion Harrison is on pace to break the school rushing record. With the help of the offensive line, Harrison has been one of the best football players to go through York Suburban. Also, this could be the first year the team has gone undefeated since 1972.

Coaching has been a big part of this team’s success. When head coach Andy Loucks was asked what makes a team successful he said, “Players have to care, successful teams care.” Loucks is in his fifth year with the team and is looking at the best season he has had at York Suburban.

Senior division I commit Garth Barclay has played a large role in the team’s success despite only playing in half of the team’s games so far this year. Garth Barclay is taking his talents to Syracuse University at the end of the year. Barclay said, “My role with the team is substantial, and I try to lead by example and take the team to the next level.” Barclay is a force on the defensive and offensive line for the Trojans and looks to help take the team far into districts.

Junior linebacker Dermot Pogson has been the anchor of the Trojan’s defense this year by leading the team in tackles. He said, “We have put our minds forth to the team and have stayed out of trouble.”

As the team approaches the end of the year, they look to stay on top of the division. This year could be a historic year for the Trojans.
