A new movie has recently been added to the Marvel universe installments, Captain Marvel was released on March 8, 2019 and has had quite the impact on the box office. The movie made $524.1 million dollars worldwide.

The movie is centered around a young woman named Vers, who is currently training to be a warrior. However, Vers has been struggling a lot. She keeps having moments where sudden fragments of things she doesn’t remember doing pop into her head. Also, she has superhuman strength and hands that can burn things.

Realizing that something is wrong, she ventures off to planet Earth, where she runs into Nick Fury and embarks on an adventure to save the world while also trying to discover herself and who she truly is and wants to be.

However, though the movie was well received worldwide, there was a group of people trying to ruin the release of the movie before it even had the chance to come out. The producers of the film, Paul Feig and Rian Johnson, had noticed that people were going online and starting to bash the leading actress of the film, Brie Larson. They were trying to spread false information about her in order to make the movie seem like it had a lot of bad reviews from different people.

Dana Benson, a representative for Fandango, which owns Rotten Tomatoes, stated, “We’ve seen it with enough movies that we know we have to evolve our system.”

This had happened before on other movies that the producers did, so when they noticed it happening again. Luckily, with the help of Facebook and Rotten Tomatoes, they were able to get the Facebook group removed. Though this had happened, there weren’t any signs showing that what the group was trying to do had affected the Captain Marvel movie in any way, as it was still able to make a very high grossing amount.

This incident has made producers and movie makers more conscious about how they run the system of their movies. Seeing as though so many bad reviews would deter anybody from actually going to see the movie. Luckily, Benson, along with other producers are working together to fix this problem for the future. Benson also stated “Anyone that has an open system like we do has received this type of attention. Moving forward, we want to make sure our users can trust our audience score and that we find different way to verify the reviews.”
