Memorial Hospital first opened in 1945 then the hospital was then bought by PinnacleHealth in 2017. The same year PinnacleHealth became a part of UPMC health creating UMPC Pinnacle. UPMC Pinnacle Memorial, formerly known as Memorial Hospital, is currently located on 325 S. Belmont St. York 17403. The hospital is in the process of being relocated to 1605 Loucks Rd. West Manchester 17404. Construction for the new hospital began in early 2018 and is set to be finished in August 2019.
Quandel Construction Group was chosen to construct the modernized replacement hospital. The hospital was originally set to be finished by April first, 2019 but the date has been pushed back to August 2019 due to minor complications.
The new hospital will better meet the growing needs of the community, according to UPMC. The facility will feature amenities that weren’t available at the previous UPMC hospital, including a level two specialty care nursery and treatment for patients in need of long term acute care. The new, modernized hospital also has a larger square footage, as well as five levels with 130 beds and private rooms so patients can heal comfortably.
UPMC Pinnacle Memorial’s new location will also have a large quantity of windows to promote natural light, in addition to other energy-efficient advancements.
Additional advancements that the new hospital will feature includes, acute and emergency medical care, cardiology, and vascular services, chronic disease management, surgical services, and treatment for patients in need of long-term acute care. UPMC Pinnacle Memorial also put an “expandable footprint” in place so that they can update and expand the hospital as needed.
The location of the new hospital may propose a problem for people who live on the East side of York County. The closest hospital besides UMPC Pinnacle Memorial is Wellspan York Hospital which is located at 1001 S. George St. York, PA 17403. However, the new hospital will be much closer for people who live in West York County, than WellSpan York Hospital as well as the current UPMC Pinnacle Memorial location.
