New Teacher Joins English Department

by Lauren Albarran

The second semester has been full of fresh new faces that many of us may not recognize. Of those faces, there has been a very new face that you have probably seen lingering around the English wing. “Who is he?”, you might ask. T.J. Lantz is one of our very new English teachers here at York Suburban. He is originally from Long Island, New York and says to have lived there most of his life. Although he is not from the Suburban area, he is no stranger to our community. When he graduated from high school, he relocated to York and graduated from York College. then went to grad school at Drexel, where he met his wife. Lantz says that him and his wife became teachers together, but she ended up becoming a veterinarian.

Prior to teaching here at Suburban, he taught eighth grade at Dallastown Middle School. Lantz now teaches English IV and English IV CP which is a significant change for him. He’s mostly worked with younger kids making his experience at Suburban very different from what he is used to. Lantz has noted that seniors are less interactive in the classroom, for example, they aren’t constantly raising their hands to ask tons of questions. Along with his senior English classes, he also teaches one English II class.

According to Lantz, York Suburban is very different from neighboring schools in York, PA. He’s taught both city schools and suburban schools, but believes this is one of the best schools he has taught at. He seems to enjoy teaching here at Suburban and believes the expectations here are much higher than other schools. He has said the coursework here is very difficult and challenges students, but lets students exercise their full potential. Lantz has also said that there are very high achieving students at Suburban.

Lantz enjoys writing in his free time. He also enjoys video games and sports. He has previously written for Dungeons and Dragons which is a roleplaying game. He has written fourteen books such as “Rise of the Retics”, “Return of the Fae-Blood”, and “Sir Dudley Tinklebutton and the Dragon’s Lair”. The majority of these books are displayed in the front of his room (106), so feel free to check them out.
