Opinion: Academy Awards

On February 24, the 91st Academy Awards were held, and many people ended up going home with awards. There were a lot of categories and some actors and actresses won more than once. For the most part I agreed with the awards that were won, the people who received them worked really hard and their work deserved to be rewarded.

There was a category for “Best Actor” and Rami Malek won for his role as Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Malek deserved to receive that award. The feedback for the film was amazing, and the movie ended up making over $52 million dollars. Ever since its release there have been a lot of Queen songs being played on different commercials that have been aired on TV.

Regina King went home with “The Best Supporting Actress” award for her part in the movie “If Beale Street Could Talk,” and she really deserved that award. The movie was received well from the public and she’s been in the acting industry for a long time. As someone who always does an amazing job in the movies that she stars in, she should have received an Oscar a long time ago.

There was an award category titled “Visual Effects” and the movie that received the award was “First Man.” I’m happy for anybody who won that night, but “Avengers: Infinity War” had to better visual effects in my eyes. First man was also a good movie, but to me their visual effects just weren’t up to par with “Infinity War.”

For the “Original Song” category, “Shallows” by Lady Gaga ft Bradley Cooper won and this was very much deserved. “A Star Is Born” was an amazing movie that took you on a rollercoaster ride of vast emotions. Lady Gaga did amazing in her role and pairing her with Cooper was a really good idea. The chemistry between them is so prominent in the movie and “Shallows” is a song that is full of emotion coming from both of them, which makes it all the more amazing and deserving of the “Original Song” award.

The award for “Makeup and Hairstyling” went to “Vice.” I agree with this, that was well deserved because their ability to turn Christian Bale into a visage of Dick Cheney was outstanding, shoutout to whoever was on his team for Hair and Makeup. Also, the movie made a lot of money and a high ranking on the board with a 77% and a grossing amount of $63.7 million dollars.
