Gun control is the laws or policies that are put in place to regulate firearms. Gun control has been a growing issue among many Americans, due to different shootings and morbid events involving guns. However, there are many different thoughts and suggestions on gun control.
There are pros and cons of gun control. There is a divide between the viewpoints on gun control. Some believe that gun control laws should not be stricter and some think the exact opposite.
It is obvious that when atrocities like school shootings happen, people ask how and why? Protests break out and people go crazy to try and fight this ongoing battle. As more and more of these high killing rampages occur, more Americans are going to battle against guns.
Sophomore Maddie Turybury said, “Gun control has not changed much” and “People are beginning to make small strides regarding how easy it is to buy/get a gun.” With this, it is easy to see that Turybury is showing the little progression that is being made. Furthermore, with as many protests that are happening, little change is occuring, which shows why we need to take an alternative way.
How it is being fixed isn’t the only thing that worries people. Sophomore Emily Johnson said, “There are more school shootings” and that there are “Limited background checks.”
As different types of shootings are happening and becoming big headlines on national news, the more people are taking action, school shootings and mass shootings can be prevented, but with the proper laws. Not only that, but these places need proper security and protection so that these killings become lower in number.
There are many approaches that can be taken to fix this that may take some work, but will be effective. One approach we can take is keeping them in a safe place, so they can’t be reached without the owner. Also, simply strengthening background checks could be a benefit, so if a dangerous person is trying to buy a gun, we can reject them and get them proper help.
